OK, so maybe it is a little bit, but it's also an opportunity for young and old alike to express themselves.
This year, kids and teenagers are taking inspiration from popular movie characters and celebrities for their Halloween garb. From Harry Potter to Daisy Duke, Batman, and Napoleon Dynamite, it's all about being someone from the silver screen.
Other popular outfits include the new red and black Oompa Loompa from this year's “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.” The outfit, which includes a black wig, has been sold out online. Other outfits, including the corpse bride, have also been sold out.
Some teenagers who want their costume to match their Halloween date dress as couples, said 16-year-old Alison Crump.
“Some people have been dressing as Bonnie and Clyde, Olive Oil and Popeye, or Tinkerbell and Peter Pan,” she said.
Still, there are always the classic scary characters that are perfect for the spooky holiday.
Jess Daring, 12, said that if she decides to dress up, she'll probably wear the same costume as she did last year: a dead cheerleader. She said that although a lot of older kids don't go trick or treating, she thinks Halloween is for all ages.
