Former Elginite Cayce Williams' murder trial, scheduled to begin this week, has been delayed.

Sixteenth Circuit Judge Timothy Sheldon has scheduled a Dec. 2 hearing on the case, but a new trial date has not been set.

Williams, 31, is to stand trial on three counts of first-degree murder and predatory criminal sexual assault. He is accused of killing 20-month-old Quortney Kley in 1997.

The toddler died in an Elgin emergency room of multiple injuries, and she had been sexually assaulted, authorities said.

The trial was continued to allow the defense to test evidence, a urine specimen, recently discovered. Kane County Public Defender David Kliment is representing Williams.
