It does not identify the two projects but says 374 written warnings were issued to defaulting contractors, of which 32 ended in the cancellation of contracts.

The report is published in the department's 2004/05 annual report.

In one case, renovation of the Western Cape Nursing College, the initial budget was R13,9-million and there was a 12-month deadline.

Seventeen months later, costs had reached R14,7-million and the project was far from complete.
